A dinner party, lots of bubbly, and my favorite bar in Asheville…who could ask for more?
Our friends Sara & Ben live in a beautiful apartment off Charlotte Street, and since it is walking distance from downtown, it provided the setting for our evening’s events. We kicked off the evening with a dinner party with one of our favorite couples, Sarah & Emory (I have a lot of Sara(h)’s in my life…you will soon find this out). I made some jambalaya in the crock pot, Sara made some homemade bread, and Sarah made delicious asparagus appetizers. After we stuffed ourselves with food & champagne, we got ready to go out to ring in the new year.
We went to my absolute favorite bar in Asheville, Sazerac. Sazerac is famous in Asheville for its amazing cocktails–they have legitimate “mixologists” that create the most delicious and beautiful drinks you could imagine. My favorite is the Thalia–a gin, pineapple, basil, and bitters concoction that is amazing. The bar tenders are superb, but the cocktail waitresses are absolute treats–they are also very attentive, kind, and seem excited to be at work. They always have suggestions for drinks and food that will compliment them, and no matter how busy they are, will take the time to talk to you about ingredients in beverages. Sazerac also boasts an amazing heated rooftop. A beautiful view of downtown Asheville and a crisp breeze? Perfection. It is definitely where I wanted to ring in the new year.
We were fortunate enough to meet up with other amazing friends that made the celebrations even sweeter. That is something I genuinely love about Asheville–even though it is a city, there are boundless opportunities to see and spend time with friends. Downtown is so walkable you can get anywhere in about 10 minutes, just in time for the countdown on a rooftop. My first kiss of 2013 was from the man I love followed by hugs, cheers, and toasts by precious friends. It may have been the most perfect New Year’s Eve ever.
I hope your evening was absolutely wonderful, and that your first day of the new year is exactly what you want it to be. This blog is a goal of mine for 2013, and I thank you all for sharing it with me. I also plan on spending 2013 working on my financial skills, traveling as much as possible, and acquiring an adorable kitten. Bring. It. On.
