So about a month ago I posted my running goals of 2013, and I am already on the right track (pun slightly intended). Craig & I will be running Great Strides of Brevard, a race supporting the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. So, technically, this is a run/walk, but it’s a start! And I plan on running the entire time.
I’ve been running 3 days a week to build up my stamina and endurance, but am also working on my speed. Unfortunately, I’ve been training on a treadmill…not on the pavement. Craig keeps telling me that my adjustment may be difficult, and I’m nervous. Does anyone have any advice on easily transitioning from machine to mother nature?
I look forward to sharing my experiences with you all while I conquer my 2013 running goals. Any advice, encouragement, and company is strongly encouraged 🙂
Definitely start hitting the pavement (or trail, easier on the knees) as soon as possible and don’t be discouraged when you add a few minutes to your regular treadmill time. It really is amazing how different the two surfaces can be! You’ll probably find yourself getting tired quicker, so I suggest setting smaller goals (x time for 1 mile) and then moving your way up.
Don’t forget about strength training! http://www.runnersworld.com/weight-loss/balance-running-and-strength-training
And most importantly, HAVE FUUUUN!
